SO THIS JUST HAPPENED I AM SCREAMING
yoga play
the funkiest headstand with Kathryn Budig this morning!!! this was scary, but with deep breathing this was so fun to try!!!!
i practiced a yogaglo led by dice and it was all about sun salutations and using your core & it was so perfect for waking up~ it was only 45 minutes, and NOT like too too challenging, so i definitely think i am going to practice more inversions later, when i get home from hanging out with brett, because i want to get my one handed handstands perfected, ah :) :) yoga is fabulous
working on something new! :) handstands are so fun
can you guys see this???? (also, what country are you in if you’re having problems)
another way to make your handstand practice more assessable !
i am sorry to admit this, but really, everyone’s favorite pose: standing split…. … (joking, of course) is a big help & a key to getting that handstand- or just making getting up there easier. if you already have one leg up, all you need to do is use your core to suck that other one up there to meet it! sounds simple, but in reality, (if you are anything like me) you’ll be struggling to get up there for over a year and feel totally discouraged. i REALLY think this is super, super helpful to help practice handstand for those who are having trouble!
- set up two blocks, or one, depending on how close you want the “ground” to be to you. the higher, the easier.
- stretch one leg up, and come onto the tip toes on the foot that’s on the block. get your hips over your shoulders (keeeey) and firm your outer arms, use all your strength! pull from deep in your core, like pulling your navel to your spine…. and breathe
- take litttttttle baby hops off that block, if you don’t get far.. it’s ok! you will! just keep leaping, keep your heart and gaze forward too… it helps, i promise. eventually with time you will drag that bottom leg up.
put on good music, and have fun with practicing handstand. don’t take yourself too seriously!

it is exactly why i am so opposed to teacher training, and i keep doubting that i should go into it as soon as i planned. i honestly believe it is going to mess up my practice. as heidi said, alignment is KEY. but really, there is some alignment that will NOT ruin your body… like, keeping a shorter stance in downdog for example. i always get picked on in class for that. to go into teacher training, i am scared they’ll keep trying & trying to correct my posture into something that makes me feel tense and frustrated. i’ve had teachers constantly push, twist, and try to shape my body RIGHT into what they think a pose HAS to look like- instead of encouraging me to breathe into it. they just, force it. i really don’t believe in it, and will never ever force someone into something they can’t handle. hell, in the beginning of class i’ll tell students, “if i try and correct you, and you don’t like it… just politely tell me to go away.”
i understand if a person is in a position that will lead to injury, like if they keep hyper-extending their knees.. ok, that’s fine. but, it seems silly to force me to step my feet hip width apart every few minutes… instead of letting me keep them together because i like that more. i don’t know, i am a bit conflicted on this topic. i really hope by some miracle i can get certified at strala… it seems like a lovely, peaceful, accepting, and modern environment. :)
