my blog is dedicated to my journey away from my eating disorder, becoming healthy, learning to love myself, improving my yoga skills, and everything in between. i am trying to find balance and ease in my life one day at a time. i am a lover of sunshine, simplicity, tofu, american apparel, cats, peanut butter, tea, and positivity : )
feel free to talk to me... don't be shy, there's no need to use anon! i am very friendly and welcoming.
working on something new! :) handstands are so fun
another way to make your handstand practice more assessable !
i am sorry to admit this, but really, everyone’s favorite pose: standing split…. … (joking, of course) is a big help & a key to getting that handstand- or just making getting up there easier. if you already have one leg up, all you need to do is use your core to suck that other one up there to meet it! sounds simple, but in reality, (if you are anything like me) you’ll be struggling to get up there for over a year and feel totally discouraged. i REALLY think this is super, super helpful to help practice handstand for those who are having trouble!
set up two blocks, or one, depending on how close you want the “ground” to be to you. the higher, the easier.
stretch one leg up, and come onto the tip toes on the foot that’s on the block. get your hips over your shoulders (keeeey) and firm your outer arms, use all your strength! pull from deep in your core, like pulling your navel to your spine…. and breathe
take litttttttle baby hops off that block, if you don’t get far.. it’s ok! you will! just keep leaping, keep your heart and gaze forward too… it helps, i promise. eventually with time you will drag that bottom leg up.
put on good music, and have fun with practicing handstand. don’t take yourself too seriously!
